meshO Manager tip 09: live top 10 for the crowd
The ninth in our series of short videos about running an event with meshO Manager. This one is the Live top 10 screen, which ranks the runners still out alongside the ones already home, and re-sorts at every radio punch.
A results screen shows who has finished. The crowd at the arena wants to know who is going to win, and that’s usually somebody still out in the forest. The Live top 10 ranks everyone, home or not, from their time at the last radio control, so a runner storming through the last radio climbs the board before they’ve crossed the line.
How it works
- In Screens, open a screen’s settings and set Shows to Live top 10, then give it its classes. Each class gets a board: one lane per runner, ten deep, including everyone still out in the forest.
- A runner still out stands on a predicted finish, marked
~, worked out from their time at their last radio control. That’s what lets someone well up at a radio sit above a runner already home. - Every radio punch updates the board, and it re-sorts on its own. Nobody touches the TV.
- Each stretch is coloured against that runner’s own pace over the rest of the course, so a deep red stretch is the one that cost them.
- A place number only appears once a runner’s card is downloaded. Until then, the board shows where they’re heading, not where they came.
- One TV can carry up to twelve classes, and the boards size themselves to fit, so nothing scrolls.
Getting it
It’s in the current version of meshO Manager. The creating screens page of the Manager docs covers setting up a Live top 10 screen, and the spectator site page explains the graph itself.
