meshO Manager tip 01: is everyone back?

The first in a series of short videos about running an event with meshO Manager. This one is about the question that matters most at the end of the day, and the two clicks that answer it.

An orienteer in a club top and black tights punches the finish control between two Finish banners, map in hand, with the download tents and a crowd of competitors under the gum trees beyond

Before anyone packs up the finish, somebody has to be able to say that nobody is left out on the course. meshO Manager keeps that number on the dashboard all day, and one click gives you the names behind it.

This is the first of a series of short tips. Each one shows one feature or one small lesson, in under thirty seconds.

The Competitors tile on the dashboard, then the On course list behind it: seven people still out, the longest unseen at the top.

How it works

  • The Competitors tile on the event dashboard counts the race as it goes: total, not started, started, On course, Pending and finished. The graph under the counts shows how many people were out at each point in the day.
  • On course is the safety number. It counts everyone meshO Manager believes is still out: runners who started and haven’t finished, runners who checked in at the check and haven’t come back, and cards nobody is entered on that a radio has seen.
  • Click it, and the On course list opens with every one of them. The longest unseen are at the top.
  • Last seen says what saw each of them last, and when: a radio control (by its code, or its name if you’ve named it), START if they’ve punched nothing since they started, the check, or the Start or Check station when you’ve read its memory.
  • The Elapsed column counts up while the list is open, so you can see how long each of them has been out.

When the number reaches zero, everyone is back.

Pending is the number beside it: people who crossed a radio finish but haven’t downloaded yet. They’re back, so they aren’t a safety problem, but each of their results stays provisional until their card is read.

Getting it

It’s in the current version of meshO Manager. The Seeing who is still on course page of the Manager docs covers the other places you can see who’s still out, and what to do about each name on the list at the end of the day.
