Jump to the next competitor with ⌘F

Last weekend Ian Chennell, the IT manager for the Australian MTBO Championships, ran all four races near Ballarat himself, on two laptops, with nobody from meshO on site.

One of the things on Ian’s list afterwards was a search box in the competitor details window. At the download tent you open a rider’s details to fix a card number or look at a mispunch, and by the time you’re done the next rider is already standing there. Until now you had to close the window, find them in the list and open them again. When the tent gets busy that adds up, so we’ve built it.

How it works

• With a competitor’s details open, press ⌘F on a Mac or Ctrl+F on Windows, or click the magnifier at the bottom left.
• Type part of a name, or a card or bib number. Matches are listed as you type, with names starting with what you typed first.
• Press Enter to open the first match, or click any of them. It opens on the Details tab. If you were part way through typing something for the previous competitor, that’s saved first.
• Esc closes the search and leaves you where you were.

It works everywhere the details window opens for an existing competitor: the Competitors list, the dashboard, Radio punches and the entry desk. It isn’t there when you’re adding a new competitor, because half an entry isn’t something you want to leave behind.

On the dashboard too

The Quick Competitor Actions tile on the dashboard answers to the same keys. Press ⌘F or Ctrl+F on the dashboard and you’re in its search, ready to type the next name. If a competitor’s details are open over the dashboard, ⌘F goes to their search instead.
