The brief
The 2025 Australian Championships were a complex carnival: seven events in nine days, at seven different locations in and around Brisbane, across relays, bush and sprint orienteering. About nine months out, the organising committee chose meshO as the sole supplier of event services for the whole week.

What meshO provided
- Results on monitors in the assembly area
- Radio controls in the field on the meshO mesh
- A live audio stream of the commentary
- PA equipment for commentary in the arena — positioned for presentations once commentary finished
- Help setting up and supporting the commentary
How it ran
- A rehearsal first. The week before, meshO ran the equipment with the carnival’s key IT people at the Queensland Championships.
- Radio controls chosen for the crowd. In the relays, only controls common to every team were shown on the screens, so the arena never saw a misleading order. Extra antennas went into the field where the terrain needed them.
- Ready before the first start, every day. Seven venues meant seven set-ups; every system was running before the first runner left.
Event by event
| Event | Format | Starters |
|---|---|---|
| Australian Sprint Championships | Sprint | 790 |
| Australian Long Distance Championships | Long | 796 |
| Australian Schools Championships — Sprint, and Run The River day 1 | Sprint | 594 |
| Australian Schools Championships — Long, and Run The River day 2 | Long | 548 |
| Australian Schools Championships — Relay, and Run The River day 3 | Schools relay · 68 teams, and a public race | 552 |
| Australian Relay Championships | Relay, three legs · 208 teams | 612 |
| Australian Middle Distance Championships | Middle | 719 |
The Australian Relay ran three legs in 27 classes, with two mass-start waves, a mass restart in each, and heavily forked courses, so nearly every team ran its own combination. Only controls common to every team went on the screens. At the Schools Relay, each class had its own three radio controls. On the schools days, the starters are the schools championship and the public Run The River race together: 203 and 391 at the sprint, 198 and 350 at the long, 200 and 352 on the relay day.
Participations count every start: a competitor who ran every race counts once for each. Figures from the published Eventor results.
“We would state categorically that the [meshO] team exceeded every expectation. They showed enormous attention to detail to ensure that the aspects of the carnival for which they were responsible ran smoothly.”“I would have no hesitation in giving any future event director my strongest recommendation to use their services.”
